Pregnancy Weight
There are a lot of questions that pregnant women have with regards to their weight during the pregnancy period. There are a lot of resources available online to help answer any questions and concerns that women have about this aspect of their pregnancy. Before taking any advice or recommendations that you find online you should consult your doctor to make sure that you are doing what is best for you and your baby.
How Much Weight Gain is Normal?
The term 'normal' is so relative to each pregnancy because absolutely everyone is different. Usually your doctor will calculate how much weight you should be gaining during your pregnancy by taking your starting weight and measuring your body mass index or BMI. Based off of your BMI, your doctor will be able to give you an acceptable range of weight gain during that you should experience during your pregnancy period.
Generally you should be gaining approximately 20 to 30 pounds during your pregnancy depending on how heavy or light you were to start with; underweight people should try to gain more weight and overweight people will need to gain less. The amount of weight you should gain also depends on your particular pregnancy, for instance if you are expecting twins you should be gaining anywhere from 30 to 50 pounds.
How to Gain the Correct Amount
You should work with your doctor to establish a nutrition schedule that will help you to stay within the recommended amount of weight for your body type. Some people take the saying 'eating for two' literally and can go overboard and gain a lot more weight than they should during the pregnancy. Exercising is a great way to make sure that you do not gain too much weight before your due date. Before starting an exercise regimen you should consult a doctor to make sure that you are not doing anything that would jeopardize your health or the health of the baby.
Dropping the Weight after the Delivery
A lot of women are concerned that they will not be able to get back down to their pre-pregnancy weight after they deliver the baby. This can lead to a lot of anxiety about weight gain during the pregnancy itself. There are plenty of plans and suggestions out there that can be helpful to a woman who is trying to lose the extra pounds she has gained during the pregnancy term so don't worry.
A Healthy Combination
A lot of people recommend natural breast feeding as a way to help lose the baby weight. This combined with a healthy diet and regular exercise is incredibly helpful in cutting the weight that was gained. New mothers should not try to cut calories to an extreme in hopes that it will help them lose the weight faster; this can be dangerous since your body is still dealing with the after effects of the pregnancy as well as the fact that it is depending on the energy that is required to take care of a newborn child.
