Pregnant Without Sperm

Many people question whether or not it is possible to get pregnant without sperm. The answer is a resounding "No." The egg needs to be fertilized by the sperm in order for it to form an embryo. Without the sperm, there simply is no way a woman can become pregnant. However, there are instances when there is no penetration, and yet the woman can become pregnant. In most cases, women think they will not get pregnant, but this is not necessarily correct. The effectiveness of the "pulling out" method will be discussed further in this article, along with the several methods used by couples who cannot get pregnant without sperm. These methods are used to help couples with fertility problems that often result to low sperm count.
The Formation of an Embryo
To better understand why a woman cannot get pregnant without sperm, a basic knowledge of how an embryo is formed is needed. As the egg is released from the ovary, it enters into the Fallopian tube. It matures in the uterus, where it will wait for the sperm cell. When a sperm cell does arrive, fertilization occurs and both egg and sperm unite to form a zygote. The cells then divide into several new cells in a process called segmentation and form a blastocyst, which is basically the beginning of an embryonic formation. Without the sperm cell, the egg cell dies and is excreted during a menstrual period. The next month, a new egg cell is formed, which will await the arrival of a sperm cell.
Getting Pregnant Without Penetration
A common misconception is that women cannot get pregnant if there is no penetration. A sperm cell can survive outside the human body for at least an hour, and if it finds its way inside the vagina when a woman is fertile, then she may get pregnant. The practice of "pulling out," although to some extent is effective, still has a 27% chance of leading to pregnancy because there are sperm cells present in the pre-seminal fluid. What you need to know about this method is that although there is no penetration when the semen comes out, there are still sperm cells that could enter the female organ. Thus, women who are not ready to become mothers yet should consider other forms of birth control.
How to Get Pregnant Without Sperm
There are couples who are unable to conceive because the man has low sperm count. It is quite difficult to get pregnant without sperm, which is why other methods are being resorted to. Among the methods used are: in vitro fertilization and fertility enhancing treatments. In vitro fertilization or IVF involves the fertilization of the egg outside the woman's uterus. The doctor would need a woman's eggs and a man's sperm and then put them in a laboratory environment where they can form into a blastocyst and then implanted in the uterus. Fertility enhancing treatments include the use of supplements and hormone replacement therapies.
