How to Get Pregnant

Pregnant women often experience symptoms that will tell them they are expecting. Symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, enlargement of breasts, fatigue, cravings, and frequent urination often indicate that a woman is pregnant, and these are already evident even during the first few weeks. However, there are those who are pregnant without symptoms. Whilst this is not common, it does happen and believe it or not, some women only find out quite a way into their pregnancy. Such an occurrence usually happens to women with an irregular menstrual period. If you suspect that you are pregnant but not experiencing any of the usual symptoms, this article will help you know if you are indeed expecting or not.

DIY Pregnancy Testing

There are various kinds of testers that you can use. One that can be done at home is better known as a home pregnancy test kit. This can be purchased at any drugstore. A test kit is simply a strip that will tell you whether you are pregnant or not. It works by detecting the presence of human chorionic gonadotrophin in the urine, a hormone that is present when there is fertilization of the egg with a sperm. You will need to put a few drops of urine onto one window, and see the results within 3-5 minutes in another window. It will either indicate positive, negative, or void results. Pregnancy test kits can be accurate even on the first day of a missed period.

Urine and Blood Tests

A urine test or urinalysis works similar to a home pregnancy test kit. It detects pregnancy by checking for the presence of human chorionic gonadotrophin (hCG) in the urine. For more accurate findings, doctors would recommend a blood test. Pregnant women also have hCG in the blood, and can be detected much earlier, at about 8 days from the time of ovulation. Accuracy of these laboratory tests can be as high as 97.4% although there are times that such tests could result in false negatives and false positives. A more advanced test for those who are possibly pregnant without symptoms is called sonography. With this method, the doctor will be able to see the uterus and determine conception in as early as 4 weeks.

Likelihood of a Miscarriage

Women who are pregnant without symptoms may run the risk of a miscarriage. There are things that pregnant women are advised against, such as engaging in strenuous activities. Women who do not know that they are expecting aren't as precautious as other pregnant women, and knowing that the first trimester is the most delicate phase, it is important for them to get enough rest and nutrition. It will certainly be worth taking a pregnancy test at the first sign of suspicion to avoid any mishaps. Should you get a positive result, make an appointment with your doctor right away so that you will be given the appropriate prenatal care.
